…And Found

As we are finalizing dates and details for the big event and auction later this year, we are continuing to collect one-of-a-kind items to auction off! The generosity of former LOST cast and creative – as well as the fans – has been amazing, and we so appreciate all of the donations. 100% of the profits from our efforts will benefit the American Cancer Society and National Brain Tumor Society.

Our friend Rob has graciously contributed an authentic prop to the cause – one that he purchased at the Official LOST Auction in 2010. Rob donated one of Jin’s single handcuffs, which Daniel Dae Kim wore for most of Season 1. He describes this handcuff, as well as the entire lot, on his blog. We are thrilled to add this to the collection, and hope to somehow arrange for Daniel Dae Kim to autograph it before the auction. Thank you, Rob!

In addition, we stopped by the Once Upon a Time offices to meet with former LOST executive producers/writers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, who are now the show runners and executive producers of Once. They took the time out of their very busy season finale writing schedules to sign our LOST Encyclopedias and other items for the auction, and threw in an autographed Once Upon a Time pilot script – one of only a few in existence with foul language included! We are very grateful for their contributions.

As a reminder, I am giving away LOST and ALCATRAZ swag as an incentive to donate to my friend Jackie’s Brain Tumor Walk next month. This will be open until April 30, and I thank you in advance for your consideration.

-Jo

Two For The Road

… the show that we’re getting on the road, that is!

Over the weekend, we had the privilege of meeting the ravishing Maggie Grace (Shannon Rutherford), who was just amazingly supportive of our cause. Having had several family members affected by cancer herself, she graciously (no pun intended) signed several items for our charity auction without any hesitation!

But as if that wasn’t awesome enough, Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia Cortez) serendipitously (and quite ironically) also happened to be the DJ at the very same location! After pointing out that she thought our logo was cool (and high-fiving me over a chuckle), she also gave us her John Hancock on some cool items for our swag pool.

Here’s a peek at just some of the items that they signed (how could we stay true to LOST if we didn’t hold back some surprises?)

Maggie stars with Guy Pierce in the new sci-fi action thriller Lockout, which premieres April 13th, 2012 in the US. Michelle returns to the Resident Evil franchise with Resident Evil: Retribution, slated to be released September 14th, 2012.

Much thanks to these two lovely ladies for their support!

Fight On: My Inspiration

Fight on. That is the motto my dear friend Jackie uses to end every medical update that she sends out to family and friends. It represents not only her beloved alma mater USC, but also her fight against an evil brain tumor named Turk.

For me, Jackie is the impetus and inspiration for Cancer Gets LOST, and the reason why I teamed up with Jared to raise money for the National Brain Tumor Society. The NBTS is my charity of choice, and Jared’s is the American Cancer Society. We will be hosting an online auction later this year (possibly coinciding with a live event in Los Angeles), with rare and autographed memorabilia from LOST and other shows – and 100% of the profits will benefit both charities.

While Jared and I are still in the planning stages of this event, I will be participating in the annual NBTS Walk in San Francisco this May, on Jackie’s “Team Toast” (as in: Turk is Toast). Her tumor is now Stage 4, and now – more than ever before – it is tremendously important to raise awareness about the National Brain Tumor Society, to seek out funding for their further research.

To encourage donations, I am giving away several items from our favorite shows. If you make a contribution of $10 or more to either Jackie’s NBTS Walk page or my NBTS Walk page and email me the receipt, you will be automatically entered to win one of the following items. The more you donate, the more chances you have to win (i.e $10 = 1 entry, $50 = 5 entries). This giveaway will be open until April 30.

  • LOST Thought: Thinking Leaders Discuss LOST (brand new book compilation – I contributed 2 chapters; 2 copies are up for grabs)
  • LOST Bobbleheads: Claire, Desmond, Hurley, Jack and Sawyer
  • Bif Bang Pow! LOST action figure: Hurley (AUTOGRAPHED by Jorge Garcia)
  • Weezer “Hurley” CD (AUTOGRAPHED by Jorge Garcia)
  • ALCATRAZ mug, exclusive from the premiere on Alcatraz in January
  • ALCATRAZ poster (AUTOGRAPHED by Jorge Garcia, Sarah Jones, Jonny Coyne, Parminder Nagra and Robert Forster)

We are very appreciative for your interest and contributions, and will keep you posted with details about the auction and event.

Fight on! And thank you.

-Jo

The End…of the Year Charity Contribution Suggestion

Many people tend to support charitable organizations at the end of each year by writing a check.  In that spirit, we would like to encourage you to consider making a last-minute 2011 donation to either the National Brain Tumor Society or the American Cancer Society. We strongly support these organizations, and all profits from our 2012 auction and event will benefit both.

As an incentive to contribute – anyone who makes a donation in any amount to either charity above by 12/31/11 will automatically be entered to win one of the following LOST-related items. If you’d like to be in the running for this giveaway, simply email us your receipt to: jared [at] cancergetslost [dot] org (and yes, we will ship to any location around the globe)!

Met Kevin Johnson

Managed to meet up with Harold Perrineau (Michael Dawson, a.k.a. Kevin Johnson) last night at a charity toy drive, where he very graciously helped our cause by signing a limited edition costume card and a few trading cards, among some other surprises!

Thanks a million, Harold!

Inspired to help The Greater Good

The Whole Truth is that every single One of Us has been affected by cancer. Friends, family, co-workers. You might be One of Them.

Even in this struggling economy, we strongly believe that it is essential to continue illuminating and assisting the causes that support those who are battling cancer. The Cost of Living is high these days, particularly for those with mounting medical bills. So we decided to amass our personal collections of LOST memorabilia, as well as seek out additional items to auction off – to raise money for two cancer charities very close to our Hearts and Minds: the American Cancer Society and the National Brain Tumor Society. The main objective of Cancer Gets LOST is to produce a live event in Los Angeles in the summer of 2012 that coincides with the auction, with 100% of the profits benefiting those two charities.

We are currently in the Recon phase, reaching out to networks and industry contacts for donated items and assessing logistical possibilities. But we are certainly also open to donations from fellow fans who are willing to part with Special items from their own collections! The memorabilia does not necessarily have to be from LOST; we are also interested in items from other shows and films created by or starring former LOST cast and crew. Please email jared [at] cancergetslost [dot] org if you have any questions or would like to contribute at this stage.

Follow us on Twitter (@CancerGetsLOST) and stay tuned for Further Instructions!

Namaste,

Jared (@agentbacardi) and Jo (@jopinionated)

The Shape of Things to Come…

Our preliminary effort consists primarily of amassing autographed items and rare one-of-a-kind collectibles, and Comic-Con 2011 proved to be very fruitful. We managed to acquire items autographed by some amazing cast members, including Daniel Roebuck (Dr. Leslie Arzt), Dominic Monaghan (Charlie Pace), and Jorge Garcia (Hugo “Hurley” Reyes). Here’s a sneak peek!

Dominic Monaghan (Charlie Pace) signing LOST Artifacts booklets

Some of our collection from Comic-Con 2011…including Jorge Garcia’s panel name card, Hurley trading card, and Hurley’s Ajira 316 boarding pass from the official LOST auction, all signed by Jorge Garcia!
