Hosted by Another: Blacksparrow Auctions & The Paley Center LOST Exhibit!

NEW AUCTION HOST!

We are equally excited and relieved to have partnered with Blacksparrow Auctions to host our next charity auction in September! Fong and his team at Blacksparrow have many years of experience in the auction industry, and they are also huge LOST fans.

In addition to the hundreds of items from LOST and various other television shows that Cancer Gets LOST has amassed for the upcoming auction, Blacksparrow has a large collection of official LOST props, costumes and set pieces on consignment that will be featured in the auction as well! 100% of the proceeds from all items sold on behalf of CGL will be donated directly to the American Cancer Society, and a portion of all proceeds from consigned items will also be donated to the ACS!

LOST EXHIBIT AT THE PALEY CENTER: RECEPTION THIS WEEKEND!

The LOST exhibit at The Paley Center features screen-used props, costumes and set pieces exclusively provided by our auction host partner Blacksparrow Auctions – as well as a few items provided by Cancer Gets LOST. A majority of the items featured in this exhibit will be available for you to bid on in our next charity auction, which will open in September! As we mentioned, 100% of the proceeds from all auction items sold on behalf of Cancer Gets LOST will be donated directly to the American Cancer Society, and a portion of all proceeds from the consigned items will also be donated to the ACS!

Misc. Oceanic 815 items

The exhibit will be open for the next several months, and various LOST items will be rotated in and out every month or so to allow for new props to be on display.

Locke’s coffin and crutches!

The Paley Center for Media is located on 465 North Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills. Admission is free and the hours are noon-5pm, Wednesday-Sunday. Parking is available for free to the general public in the Paley Center parking lot located off of S. Santa Monica Blvd.

We hope to see you there on Sunday – and if you are able to visit The Paley Center in the next few months while the LOST exhibit is on display, please let us know what you think!

316: The LOST 10 Year Reunion PaleyFest Panel & Walker Stalker Con!

In March, we were fortunate to be able to attend both Walker Stalker Con in Chicago and the LOST 10 Year Anniversary Reunion panel at PaleyFest in LA! Below is a rundown of our fantastic experiences at both.

WALKER STALKER CON

Jared joins Nestor Carbonell on stage at his Walker Stalker Con panel (photo courtesy of @erikaolson)

Jared had the great pleasure of meeting and spending time with Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert) at Walker Stalker Con in Chicago, and Nestor went above and beyond in support of CGL. He signed a variety of LOST and Bates Motel items, invited Jared on stage to join his panel to talk about CGL and even created a video promo for us (which we will reveal soon)! Special thanks to The Walker Stalkers themselves, James Frazier and Eric Nordhoff, for this opportunity – they’ve been so very kind to CGL!

CGL CHARITY AUCTION ACQUISITIONS

While Jared was in Chicago, Jo met up with a few very good friends of CGL in LA about our big charity auction in September. Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, show runners for Once Upon a Time, kindly signed items and also donated additional memorabilia! In addition, our friends at Bad Robot generously provided a few boxes of rare LOST prints and screen used props! Once again, the generosity from both parties was tremendous and we are always incredibly grateful for the contributions they make to our charity auctions.

Leading up to our big auction in September, we will be releasing preview teases of items that will be featured – and stay tuned for an official announcement about our new auction host partner! This year, we have designated 100% of the proceeds from our auction to benefit the American Cancer Society.

LOST 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY REUNION PANEL

Jared quickly returned to LA to join Jo for the LOST 10 Year Anniversary Reunion panel at PaleyFest! Due to a variety of fortuitous circumstances, we were able to join the cast in the green room backstage before and after the panel. They allowed us to set up a table of auction items and the cast all stopped by to sign and chat with us. We were thrilled to have that opportunity, and once again this experience confirmed that all involved with LOST continue to be the most generous and supportive cast and creative in the business. The show debuted ten years ago and ended four years ago, and yet – they all still recognize and appreciate the amazing community and camaraderie they were responsible for creating.

CGL GUESTS OF HONOR

Jo and Sandy

We were very honored to have been able to provide two very special guests with tickets to the panel; two cancer survivors and huge LOST fans that made the journey specifically for the event. Robert traveled all the way from Europe, and Sandy drove up from San Diego! It was such a pleasure meeting both of them, and we will continue to send them positive vibes for good health.

MESSAGES FROM THE ISLAND

Jo, Damon, Jared & David backstage after the LOST PaleyFest panel

As a side project a while back, Jared had the idea to gather notes of encouragement and support for Damon Lindelof after his abrupt departure from Twitter. He created Messages From the Island, put all of the notes into a nice Dharma wine bottle and was able to deliver it in person after the PaleyFest panel. The look of joy on Damon’s face was genuine and heartwarming, and it was one of the more memorable moments we’ve experienced in the many years of LOST adventures together!

We have many exciting announcements on the horizon, so please stay tuned!

LOST 10th Anniversary Reunion at PaleyFest – Ticket Giveaway!

[photo courtesy of The Paley Center for Media, from PaleyFest 2010]

Hello friends, and happy new year! We are so excited to have had the opportunity to purchase a few extra tickets to the LOST 10th Anniversary Reunion panel at PaleyFest in Los Angeles. We acquired 2 pairs of tickets to give away to two very special LOST fans! The event will take place on Sunday, March 16 at 7pm PST, at the Dolby Theater.

Who is eligible to receive these tickets? We are seeking two specific Candidates to attend the panel – LOST fans that are either currently battling cancer or are cancer survivors.

If you fit the description above, and are a huge fan of LOST –  please email Jo (jo at jopinionated dot com) by Friday, January 31. You may also nominate a LOST fan with cancer or a cancer survivor, as long as they wouldn’t mind and will be able to attend* if selected. We would love to give these tickets to true LOST fans that have stories about how the show has affected their life and even perhaps their health. Of course we appreciate your privacy and have no intention of posting or sharing any information contained in your emails.

* While it isn’t necessary that those who win the tickets live in the Los Angeles area, they MUST be able to provide their own transportation, lodging, etc. for themselves and their guests. Cancer Gets LOST is only providing two LOST panel tickets to two winners. In addition, the two fans that win the tickets must be able to guarantee that they can attend (barring any medical emergencies of course); we can only transfer the tickets to another name one time.

We will randomly draw 2 names from a hat after all entries have been received, and notify the winners by February 1.

It will be a great honor for us to share this experience with fellow LOST fans, to attend this incredible event with those who inspire us every day to continue channeling the generosity of passionate fans into raising money for cancer research and cures.

Namaste!

Jared and Jo

The Shape of Things to Come: CGL in 2014!

Hello, LOST friends – and happy 8.23! We’ve missed you and have been feeling unusually nostalgic lately, for two specific reasons.

First, because tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary of our first Cancer Gets LOST live events (webcast and fundraising fan party)! One year ago this week, so many of you generously bid on items in our charity auction, watched the live webcast or attended the fundraising event in Los Angeles. That was an experience that we continue to look back upon quite fondly, and we are still in awe of your incredible contributions and support.

Second, because next year marks 10 years since LOST entered/changed our lives – and we are thrilled to announce that CGL will be hosting and/or sponsoring a live event (to be determined) at LOST 2014 on Oahu! As many of you know, LOST 2014 is the official fan gathering in Hawaii to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of LOST’s debut (9/22/14). To answer the most obvious and frequently asked next question – not yet (cast/crew will be invited but due to their filming schedules/locations and unknown career moves in 2014, we aren’t able to confirm anyone until later next year)! [Side note: I am actually working with the LOST 2014 organizers as their talent liaison, so rest assured that WHEN we are able to announce special guests - you will be among the first to know on all of our various social networks!]

Right now, CGL is in the planning stages for our involvement and partnership with LOST 2014, but here are few details about our plans for next year that we can share:

  1. We are very aware that those of you who plan to attend LOST 2014 will be spending a great deal of money to do so; therefore rest assured that whatever CGL winds up hosting/sponsoring – it will be an affordable option, and every cent will be donated to charity!
  2. There will be a CGL online auction featuring rare and signed memorabilia from a wide variety of television shows and films, which will run concurrently with the events in Hawaii (starting 1 week before and ending 1 week after)! We wanted to offer something for those of you who aren’t attending to participate! Of course the auction will be open to everyone around the world, regardless of whether or not you’re going to be in Hawaii. * Please note: winning bidders will be responsible for all auction item shipping costs and insurance.
  3. 100% of the proceeds from the CGL LOST 2014 event and CGL 2014 auction will go directly to the American Cancer Society, our charity of choice for next year!

Stay tuned for more details – and thank you for your continued interest and support!

Please ‘like’ the official LOST 2014 Facebook page and follow them on Twitter for updates. The Team Behind the Curtain is working very diligently in the hopes of offering fans good travel deals, island tour options and (fingers crossed) a Pilot screening! By the way – if you’re interested, they just started a LOST re-watch and are also seeking a logo designer; all of the details are on their site and FB page!

Just a reminder – you can also follow CGL on FB & Twitter. :)

Namaste!

- Jo

Walkabout

As many of you know, we were inspired to create Cancer Gets LOST because of my dear friend Jackie, who lost her courageous battle against brain cancer in August of last year. We are continuing to honor her fight and spirit, and I will be participating in the Bay Area Brain Tumor Walk in May along with Jackie’s family and friends.

We realize that we asked for donations to her cause (the National Brain Tumor Society) last year, but we feel that it is our duty and honor to continue fundraising for Jackie’s charity of choice. And we are thrilled to be able to offer a bit of an incentive to encourage contributions!

If you make a donation in any amount directly to Jackie’s Brain Tumor Walk (Team Toast) by May 4, we will send you a Cancer Gets LOST wristband AND a 14″x20″Jacob Loves You poster (see above).

If you make a donation of $40 or more, we will send you a limited edition (only 23 of each were created), numbered Jason Shorr 13″x19″ LOST poster. Your choice would be as follows: “It Worked” (featuring Juliet and Sawyer, above) or “I Remember” (featuring Jin and Sun, below). We have 13 and 15 posters of each left, respectively.

If you are interested in making a donation in any amount to Jackie’s Brain Tumor Walk team, simply forward me your email receipt (jo at jopinionated dot com) by May 4 with a shipping address for the poster. We really appreciate your consideration. Namaste!

Help Us Help Alex (Not Rousseau)!

As you know, earlier this year we raised over $60,000 for the National Brain Tumor Society through an online auction, live webcast and fundraising party – all of which was a direct result of your overwhelming and very appreciated generosity!

For those who are interested in making another (or first time) charitable, tax-deductible contribution before the end of 2012, we would like to offer you an incentive! Among the many causes that Cancer Gets LOST supports, we are a huge fan of Alex’s Lemonade Stand – an organization dedicated to childhood cancer research. If you make a donation to their foundation in any amount by December 31, 2012 and email us your receipt, you will be automatically entered to receive one of the following items in return:

  • 1 limited edition “Jacob Loves You” 14×20 mini-poster, created by Cancer Gets LOST co-founder Jared W! [50 available] – OR -

  • 1 LOST S6 DVD set, donated & signed by Damon Lindelof [10 available]

PLUS: everyone who makes a donation to Alex’s Lemonade Stand in any amount will receive one of our limited edition CGL wristbands!

To recap:

1) Make a donation directly to Alex’s Lemonade Stand via this link by December 31, 2012

2) Email your receipt to jo [at] jopinionated [dot] com

3) PLEASE note in your email which item you’d like the most, in order (i.e. 1 – DVD, 2 – poster). We will try to accommodate your preferences but supplies are very limited and names will be drawn randomly!

4) Include your shipping address. Apologies, but this giveaway is open ONLY within the U.S.; our personal shipping funds are depleted from the auction, and we can only afford to ship within the U.S. IF you live outside of the U.S., make a donation and are willing to pay for shipping via Paypal, we can make an exception.

Thank you in advance for your consideration!

Namaste,

Jo

Namaste

We just wanted to wrap up our 2012 Cancer Gets LOST efforts by reiterating how grateful we are for your amazing support. Thanks to your very generous auction item purchases and donations, we raised over $60,000 for the National Brain Tumor Society! That number far exceeded our wildest expectations, and we are so thrilled to have raised such a fantastic amount of money for a charity organization so close to our hearts.

Of course the auction, live webcast and fundraising party would not have been possible without the help of SO many. We listed all of the kind folks who volunteered their time, items or services in the Acknowledgements tab above!

As of right now, we do not have anything planned for Cancer Gets LOST in 2013 – but we will certainly keep you posted!

Namaste,

Jared & Jo

Par Avion

We are very pleased to announce that the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) is almost done processing all your winning bids as donations, and we are now Moving On to the shipping phase of the process!

First, please note that every winning bidder will be receiving a receipt from the NBTS directly. They will be sending them out over the course of the next 2 weeks.

Second, as we have stated in the FAQ, we are only a two-person operation with regular full-time jobs, so we really appreciate your patience and understanding while we ship over 200 items to different people all over the world! We will be shipping the smaller items out first, and move towards the bigger items – posters/prints/paintings, furniture, etc. We estimate that delivery should take approximately 1-2 weeks for US domestic, and 3-4 weeks for international.

Thanks again for your support of Cancer Gets LOST. We are excited for everyone to receive their items!

Post-Auction Update: Winning Bidders – Please Read

* UPDATE: On 9/7/12, we were finally able to forward all of  your final and verified winning bid and credit card information to the National Brain Tumor Society. Please give them 1-2 weeks to process over 250 bids as donations, and then give us 1-2 weeks after that time to prepare and ship your items!

Greetings, Cancer Gets LOST supporters and charity auction winners! We wanted to keep you posted about the status of your items.

As noted in our Auction FAQ, we kindly ask that you give us 6-8 weeks for the delivery of your items. Right now we are still on target to do so, but are currently experiencing a delay due to Bidding for Good’s technical errors. As you know, Bidding for Good is our auction host site, and their engineers are working to fix the issues. Long story short, when we look at Winning Bidder and Awarded Item reports, not every auction item winner is aligned properly with their winning item(s). We will not forward your credit card information on the National Brain Tumor Society until we are 100% sure that it is all correct!

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

It would be tremendously helpful if all winning bidders double checked their Winning Bid Alert emails with their Bidding for Good accounts, to make sure that there aren’t any discrepancies. If there are, please forward your Winning Bid Alert emails to Jared, along with an explanation of said discrepancies (jared [at] cancergetslost [dot] org).

Thank you in advance for your patience! Once BFG has fixed the errors, we will provide the NBTS with your winning bid information. Every single bid will then be processed by the NBTS as a tax-deductible donation (where applicable).

To avoid confusion, PLEASE do not call/contact either Bidding for Good or the NBTS. We are working very closely with each of them to ensure 100% accuracy, and will keep you posted along the way.

If you have any questions, please contact us directly:

The Whole Truth: Charity Auction Details

First of all, a huge note of gratitude to everyone who placed bids on any items in our charity auction! We so appreciate your interest and support, especially because 100% of the proceeds from every single winning bid go directly to the National Brain Tumor Society.

To say that the auction has FAR exceeded our expectations is an understatement. We conservatively aimed and hoped to raise $15,000 for the NBTS, total (proceeds from auction, webcast and fundraising event combined).

We feel that because you all have been so generous toward our efforts, you deserve the whole truth about how this works behind the scenes. We had a VERY small budget for all 3 tiers of our Cancer Gets LOST efforts (auction, webcast & fundraising event), most of which was saved for shipping auction items and to pay the performance fees to the site hosting our auction. Because of the amazingly high volume of bids and the auction totals, we are now in the red and all of our earmarked funds are completely dedicated to paying the performance fees to the auction site. We are NOT complaining – we are thrilled to be able to raise so much money for the NBTS, because it honors the memory of Jo’s dear friend Jackie.

Long story short: we are paying for the shipping of all 280 items out of our own pockets (except for the larger, heavier items such as the furniture) – which we are happy to do, so that 100% of your donations via the auction go directly to the NBTS! We decided to let you know so that you understand why it will take 6-8 weeks for us to package and ship out so many items to winning bidders all over the world. In addition to the fact that the NBTS has to process each of your winning bids individually as tax-deductable donations, we both have full-time jobs. Thus, packing and shipping items will take place during lunch breaks, after work and on weekends. We really appreciate your patience in advance!

This is NOT us asking for sympathy or for you to offer to pay for shipping. This is us being as transparent as possible, so that you understand why your items will take time to prepare and arrive.

For specific shipping and payment questions, please read the CGL Auction FAQ!

Namaste, and thank you so much for your tremendous generosity -

Jared & Jo
