2024 CGL LOST Online Charity Auction Details!

Bid Together, Buy Alone!

The 2024 Cancer Gets Lost Online Charity Auction will officially open on May 11 at 10:15am ET, and close on May 18 at 1pm ET!

This auction features rare and signed LOST items, in honor of the 20-year anniversary of the show’s 2004 debut! All auction items have been kindly donated by LOST fans, cast/crew, and creatives. We are also including items adjacent to LOST; rare collectibles from Bad Robot and various shows/projects that the LOST cast have since worked on!

100% of all proceeds from this CGL auction will be donated to the children’s brain cancer charity Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, the largest patient advocacy funder of pediatric brain tumor research. We selected the PBTF because tragically, pediatric brain cancer is the most commonly diagnosed and deadliest childhood cancer in the United States.

The money raised in this auction will make an actual difference in the lives of children with brain cancer (and their families), from diagnosis through treatment and beyond.

CGL 2024 Online Charity Auction Registration

Registration for the Cancer Gets Lost 2024 Online Charity Auction is NOW OPEN, here on our external auction hosting site.

After you register to bid in the CGL charity auction, you’ll see this message: Auction Approval Pending. We appreciate your patience because we must approve each bidder individually. This process is necessary but quick; all approvals will occur within hours, except when we are asleep or traveling!

IF you live outside of the United States, your auction registration will be set as “Pending” until we have the chance to discuss the very high shipping & customs costs with you. Please scroll down to read the international shipping rules and restrictions before attempting to register for our auction, and then contact us (CGLauctions at gmail dot com).

**IMPORTANT: Please register to bid using an email account that you actually check and use! It has become a challenging issue for us after charity auctions when we are unable to contact a few winning bidders because they never actually check the email they registered with!

View the Charity Auction in Preview Mode!

Everyone is now able to view our entire auction in Preview Mode. You can peruse ALL CGL auction listings, items and packages!

PLEASE NOTE: until our auction goes live for bidding on May 11, each listing will say “Bidding Not Open Yet” or “No Online Bidding For This Lot.” That is just temporary, during Preview Mode!

Providing Method of Payment When You Register

When you register for the CGL 2024 charity auction on our external host site, it WILL ask you for a credit card. HOWEVER! It is for security purposes only, and neither the site nor CGL will charge anything to your card.

FYI: post-auction payments are ONLY possible via the CGL PayPal account (which you can only access via our website). You should never attempt to make a payment for a CGL auction item on our external auction host site.

Our auction host site is owned by Live Auction, which is based in Canada. So, this is the message you’ll see when you register:

“By clicking ‘Confirm Your Information’ below, you agree to allow your credit card to be authorized for $1.00 CAD by ‘LIVE AUCTION GROUP PORT COQUITLA BC’ to ensure your card is valid. This amount will be held for 7 to 30 days before being automatically released.”

CGL Auction Transparency: NO Buyer’s Premium Fee!

Most auctions of this magnitude require winning bidders to pay a Buyer’s Premium fee per item, in addition to the winning bid and shipping cost. CGL is covering all Buyers Premium Fees (3% per item), so that you don’t have to! Winning bidders will only have to pay for items won + shipping. This allows CGL to donate 100% of ALL auction proceeds to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation!

**PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU REGISTER

We kindly ask that you please only place bids in the 2024 CGL charity auction if you genuinely intend to pay for the items you win and have the means to do so. Unfortunately, we’ve experienced fraud with almost every CGL auction - which is terrible because the funds promised by winning bidders are then NOT donated to the cancer charity we’ve designated to receive all proceeds. If you win an item in our auction but fail to pay for it after, you will no longer be allowed to register for and participate in any CGL charity auctions.

FYI: after you submit your registration information, IF our auction host site notifies us that you’ve failed to pay for an item in a previous auction on their site (CGL or otherwise), your CGL 2024 auction registration will be denied.

* We ask that EVERYONE also please read the Terms & Conditions and Shipping Restriction details below BEFORE you register for our charity auction.

CGL Charity Auction Terms & Conditions

  • Disclaimer: PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL ITEMS IN THE 2024 CANCER GETS LOST CHARITY AUCTION ARE SOLD IN “AS IS” CONDITION, WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

  • Cancer Gets Lost cannot be held accountable for any delays in shipping due to customs or carrier delays, and unforeseen circumstances outside of our control.

  • There are NO refunds! 100% of the proceeds from the 2024 Cancer Gets Lost Online Charity Auction are being donated to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

What is a Fiscal Sponsor and what does it have to do with this auction?

CGL is a 501c (3)-sponsored organization. We operate under the umbrella of our Fiscal Sponsor FJC, A Foundation of Philanthropic Funds. They are a 501c (3) public charity that provides management of charitable giving for small organizations like ours. FJC oversees all of the financials for Cancer Gets Lost, they collect tax-deductible contributions made via CGL, and then disburse final auction proceed checks to designated cancer charities on our behalf. FJC has earned a top 4-star rating on Charity Navigator!

Regarding tax receipts from FJC: if you win a CGL charity auction item and the difference between your winning bid and the starting bid of the auction item is over $250, you will receive a tax receipt. For example, if your winning bid is $300 and the starting price was $10, you’ll receive a tax receipt for $290. Please note: FJC mails out tax receipts to the mailing address you provide us with, usually 2-3 months after the auction ends.

Post-Auction

After the auction ends, if you’ve won an item, CGL will email you an invoice within 48 hours that includes detailed instructions, our payment link, and your shipping cost! Please do NOT attempt to make a payment before you receive your CGL invoice.

Payment for the auction items you win is expected in full within 7 calendar days of the day you receive an email invoice from us. The only acceptable method of payment is PayPal, which must be made directly to the CGL PayPal account using the Donate link on this website (which directs winning bidders to the only CGL PayPal account, managed by their fiscal sponsor FJC, A Foundation of Philanthropic Funds).

If you don’t have a PayPal account, you will be able to use a credit card via PayPal.

ALSO! If the name on the PayPal account you use to pay for your auction item is NOT your real full name (i.e. a nickname or name of business), you must let us know! CGL does not have access to our PayPal account, nor are we able to see any addresses associated with your PayPal account. Our fiscal sponsor FJC sends us a report of payments made to our PayPal account, but requires that they match the REAL FULL NAMES of winning bidders (for tax receipt purposes)!

SHIPPING & MAILING ADDRESSES

After you receive your invoice for items won in the 2024 CGL charity auction + shipping costs, PLEASE email us BOTH your shipping and mailing addresses! We must have your mailing address for tax receipt purposes.

Realistic Shipping Timeline

Shipping will take place in waves, over 3 weeks’ time in June. I am quite literally a party of one and responsible for the packaging, labels, and shipping of hundreds of auction items!

In addition, people in the U.S. and around the globe are still experiencing longer-than-usual shipping delays due to many world events that are out of our control, so I really appreciate your patience!

SHIPPING

  • The shipping cost of every item/package will be included in each individual auction listing. These are domestic/U.S. shipping costs only. If an item requires a special box (i.e. framed artwork), we note additional shipping costs.

  • ALL CGL auction packages will be trackable and insured. We will email you your tracking numbers once your items are packaged and ready to ship.

  • Most packages and boxes of any size + all poster tubes will be shipped via UPS Ground.

  • Most small flats (photos, small prints, etc.) and packages will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail, unless the winning bid is over $500. If so, they will be shipped via UPS Ground.

  • All scripts and high value auction items/packages with winning bids over $500 will require an adult signature upon delivery. That is an added expense that CGL covers for you.

  • If you win more than one item, we will combine them together in one package. The exception is large posters, which will have to ship separately in poster tubes. PLEASE NOTE: when you win multiple items, your shipping cost will increase in order for us to fit all into one box or when we have to ship poster tubes separately.

  • Shipping costs are real prices; CGL does not mark up anything. In fact, we always underestimate final shipping costs and wind up covering ALL of the extra costs as a result.

  • We do not charge you for boxes or packaging, JUST the shipping cost.

  • With the environment in mind, CGL ships out auction items in primarily repurposed boxes. While the outside of your packages may not always be perfect, it’s what’s inside that counts!

  • All posters will be placed inside of poster tubes, and then inside of cardboard poster boxes. We now require double protection because of too many damaged and destroyed irreplaceable posters and prints in auctions past. The only exceptions will be the few oversized posters, which will ship in extended sized poster tubes only.

  • IF you live within an hour of the Boston MA area & want to save $ on shipping, we can arrange a drop off in person! Let us know if you’re interested.

  • Each auction item will be accompanied by a CGL CoA (Certificate of Authenticity).

** INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING RULES & RESTRICTIONS

With apologies to our very kind friends abroad - we simply cannot afford to continue paying for lost or damaged auction items out of our tiny annual operating budget. Sadly, it happens with every single charity auction we host.

Therefore, only a small number of people with shipping addresses outside of the U.S. will be approved to register for this auction. Truthfully, we simply do not have the bandwidth to handle a high number of global shipments. We will keep you posted with how many spots are still open for international bidders after registration has opened.

If you have a shipping address outside of the U.S. and you would like to participate in the 2024 CGL Online Charity Auction, you MUST email us in advance so we can discuss your options and the massive shipping costs + customs duties/fees involved. Our email is CGLauctions at gmail dot com.

  • The winning bidder will be entirely responsible for ANY/ALL Customs and Import Duties that may apply once our auction shipment arrives in your country. This is often a shockingly high fee that you alone would be responsible for. So please check your own country fees and duties before registering and decide for yourself if you are willing and able to cover the additional fees/duties!

  • All CGL charity auction international packages will be shipped via UPS Worldwide, DDU (Delivered Duties Unpaid). Which means that ALL duties and taxes are collected at the time of delivery from the winning bidder.

  • If a CGL auction item arrives to your country and you refuse to pay the duties/fees, it may not get returned to us. This has happened, and it is a worst-case scenario. Because we then have to refund your donation (subtracting that amount from our overall donation to the children’s brain cancer charity PBTF) and we lose a very rare or irreplaceable item that we would normally then include in a future CGL charity auction.

  • Alternatively, if you have a friend, family, or office with a U.S. shipping address that you can use if you win an item in our charity auction - please just let us know when you register! We are unable to view the shipping address you enter when you register, which is why we are asking you to contact us first.

Cancer Gets Lost also must adhere to international shipping restrictions. There are countries that require prohibitively high customs fees when items arrive, so we try to avoid shipping there. This includes locations currently affected by war, political instability, or widespread disasters (earthquakes, floods, etc.). Therefore, please check the list of countries below that we are unable to ship to before registering for our charity auction. Thank you!

Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bhutan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, China, Columbia, Comoros, Congo, Cook Islands, Cote D’ivoire, Cuba, East Timor, Egypt, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Gambia, Gaza Strip, Gibraltar, Greenland, Haiti, Honduras, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Korea (North and South), Kuwait, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Madagascar, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Montserrat, Myanmar, Niger, Nigeria, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Palestine, Papa New Guinea, Pitcairn, Reunion, Russian Federation, Saint Helena, Saint Pierre & Miquelon, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Georgia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Syria, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Turkey, Tuvalu, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Venezuela, Wallis & Futuna, Yemen.

AND…

All international shipments will be shipped out separately and last, in late June.

Winning bidders will have to make TWO payments to CGL at two different times (in addition to their own country’s customs fees & duties upon package arrival):

  • Payment 1: Your winning bid, after receiving the official invoice via email from CGL within 48 hours after the auction ends.

  • Payment 2: Your UPS Worldwide shipping cost, which will be determined by a shipping professional up to a month after the auction ends. We will email you the exact cost with a link for payment.

CURRENT INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING COSTS

Here are current shipping cost examples (NOT including individual country customs fees/duties that each winning bidder is responsible for paying) from three different shipping carriers, all of which include the cost of insurance and tracking services.

Honestly, more often than not, international winning bidders wind up spending far more on shipping than they do on their auction items. Something to keep in mind!

We selected various types of auction items for these examples (based on size, weight, and contents).

Poster tube

The choice to participate in a CGL online charity auction is yours! We just feel as though it is very important to be candid with you about the state of the shipping world and the expenses involved.

Shipping Note: Insurance and Irreplaceable Auction Items

As you know, almost all of our CGL auction items are either rare or 1-of-a-kind. Some are absolutely irreplaceable. Because of ongoing global shipping issues, there is a greater risk that a package might get lost or damaged in transit (which is out of our control). If that happens to your auction item, we will have to reimburse you for your donation. Which means that CGL has to subtract that amount from the grand total we’re donating to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. We try to avoid that if it all possible!

In addition, although each auction package will be insured, if something happens to it – the carrier only reimburses us for a tiny portion of its value. If we were to add insurance to auction packages with the actual Final Bidding Prices, there is no way y’all would pay for shipping! Prohibitively expensive is an understatement.

We Have to Give Back!

After all winning bidder payments have been verified by FJC (our fiscal sponsor) AND all auction packages have been received, 100% of the proceeds from the 2024 Cancer Gets Lost Online Charity Auction will be donated to the children’s brain cancer charity Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation! This usually occurs 2 months after our auction has ended.

If you’re not interested in participating in our online charity auction but would like to kindly make a small donation to the PBTF – we appreciate your consideration! You can either donate via their site directly or via CGL, and we will then designate that 100% of your contribution will be included in our final post-auction donation to the PBTF.

CGL Transparency

Full disclosure: we fund Cancer Gets Lost ourselves, with our own money. There are two CGL Co-Founders (it has only ever been just the two of us running this organization), and neither of us have ever kept or earned any money raised in our charity auctions, nor do we plan to. CGL is a true labor of love!

If you have any auction questions, please email us (CGLauctions at gmail dot com).

Thank you so much for your interest and support!

Cheers,

-Jo
